We’ve landed in Argentina to begin the next step in our quest to experience life in different parts of the world. The goal – To live in South America in our chosen city, Buenos Aires (BA), for one to two years.
Within just a few weeks of arriving in the capital city of Argentina (where we plan to set up our home base for more travel through this and other South American countries) there are already many things that tell me we’re going to love living in this city.
This and the following two posts will cover three of the best things we’ve discovered about BA so far.
Number 1 – Friendly People
The first thing we discovered immediately upon arrival (and it has continued to present itself almost daily) is how friendly the people are. Let me offer the following as an example…
The day we arrived in BA, before we were able to check into our Airbnb, we sat down for a cup of coffee. As we waited for our order, a young woman at the next table leaned over and asked (in English) where we were from. That simple question launched us into a lovely conversation that also included her brother, both of whom are local BA Argentinians. As they prepared to leave, we exchanged WhatsApp information. The following week, Mark sent a message suggesting we meet again somewhere for coffee. Almost immediately, we received a response inviting us to a barbecue at their family’s home instead, which we happily accepted!

This is just one instance of the friendliness of the people we’ve encountered so far, but it’s an indicative example of the willingness of the people to start conversations with us (even if they don’t speak much English), to offer assistance, practice their English, or just say hello, all of which makes us feel very welcome in Argentina.
¡Te quiero Buenos Aires!
(Don’t forget to pop in a “hello” in the comments – just to let me know you’re there 🙂 And watch for Part 2 of Hola Buenos Aires coming soon…)
